Trauma Therapy in Northern Virginia: EMDR, Brainspotting, and Parts Work

Trauma is not something you can simply think your way through. Many people understand what happened to them intellectually, yet still find themselves reacting in ways they cannot explain — feeling stuck, overwhelmed, disconnected, hypervigilant, or unable to move forward.

Healing often requires more than talking about the past. My work combines evidence-based trauma treatment with experiential approaches that address the deeper emotional, cognitive, and body-based patterns that continue to influence how you feel, respond, and relate to yourself and others.

I am EMDRIA-certified in EMDR and a certified Brainspotting therapist, with advanced training in Parts Work, Ego State Therapy, Internal Family Systems (IFS), and nervous system regulation. I work with adults healing from complex PTSD, betrayal trauma, childhood trauma, attachment injuries, anxiety, and the lasting impact of difficult relationships and life experiences.

Rather than following a one-size-fits-all protocol, I tailor therapy to your unique history, needs, and goals.

Modalities I Use

  • EMDR – A well-researched approach for trauma, PTSD, and anxiety. EMDR helps process traumatic memories and experiences that continue to feel emotionally present, even when you understand them logically. Using bilateral stimulation, EMDR supports the brain’s natural ability to process experiences that may remain difficult to access through words alone.
  • Brainspotting – A mind-body approach that helps access and process deeper emotional experiences, body-based responses, and trauma that may be difficult to put into words. Brainspotting can be especially helpful for pre-verbal trauma, dissociation, and experiences where traditional talk therapy feels limited or overwhelming.
  • Ego State Therapy & Internal Family Systems – Often referred to as “parts work,” these approaches help you understand the different parts of yourself that developed in response to life experiences. Therapy focuses on building self-compassion, increasing internal understanding, and helping protective patterns become less limiting.
  • Coherence Therapy – A process for identifying and transforming the emotional learnings and beliefs that keep old patterns active, even when you consciously want to change.

These approaches can be used individually or integrated together depending on your history, goals, and comfort level. Some clients benefit from focusing on one modality, while others find a blended approach most helpful.

Each approach has its own dedicated page where you can learn more about how it works and whether it may be a good fit for you. If you are unsure which approach fits your situation, we can explore that together during a consultation.

I am in-network with Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield.
